PERSONAL PROPERTY RENDITION?  IT’S NOT TO LATE!

Each year owners of personal property in Kansas are required to provide a list of taxable personal property to the Appraiser’s Office in the county where the property is kept.  A rendition needs to be signed and filed.
TAXABLE PERSONAL PROPERTY WHICH SHOULD BE LISTED IS:

  • Trucks registered with 16,000 pounds or heavier tax
  • Trailers (of any sort)
  • Non-highway vehicles (cars, trucks, mopeds, three and four wheelers, dirt bikes, ANY vehicle not tagged for highway use)
  • Mobile homes
  • Golf Carts
  • Aircraft, hot air balloons
  • Boats, motors, boat trailers, jet ski, jet ski trailer
  • Equipment used in the operation of a business

Penalty for FAILURE to file:  50%

NOTICE

TOPEKA – Agricultural land values in 66 Kansas counties may decrease slightly from property valuations recently sent out depending on the property’s soil type.
Valuations on some property for tax year 2016 could decrease by as much as $3.00 an acre. In Ford County the average decrease was $1.00 an acre for some soil types. Because this is a decrease in property value, counties are not required to send out a second notice.
While valuation notices are sent out in March, tax bills have not yet been mailed to property owners. The changes will be reflected in the 2016 tax bills.
There was a clerical error in the calculation provided to the state Property Valuation Division, which was used to determine some valuations, which caused the mistake.
